Ferocactus glaucescens ‘Blue Barrel’ is a spherical cacti which grows to approx. 60cm in diameter. It is blue in colour with long yellow spines and produces stunning yellow flowers during the Summer months. Blue Barrels are low maintenance and suit dry garden situations requiring little water.
The Blue Barrel is favoured for its beautiful blue body and is a perfect alternative for the more common Golden Barrel.

Blue Barrels crave full sunlight for 4 to 6 hours daily. Conversely, insufficient sunlight can lead to weak growth and minimal blooming.
As a desert cactus, Ferocactus glaucescens can tolerate periods without water. Water the cactus thoroughly during its active growth season (spring and summer), saturating the soil. Allow the soil to dry out to prevent root rot caused by waterlogged conditions.
Ferocactus glaucescens will benefit from an application of an All Purpose, Slow Release fertiliser every 9-12 months.
You can grow Blue Barrels in warm climates directly in the ground. For containers, ensure well-draining soil rich in nutrients.
