The Silver Torch Cactus craves full sunlight for 4 to 6 hours daily. Conversely, insufficient sunlight can lead to weak growth and minimal blooming.
As a desert cactus, the Silver Torch can tolerate periods without water. Water the cactus thoroughly during its active growth season (spring and summer), saturating the soil. Allow the soil to dry out to prevent root rot caused by waterlogged conditions. In winter, reduce watering to let the cactus rest, occasionally misting the soil when it's completely dry.
Cleistocactus strausii ‘Silver Torch’ will benefit from an application of an All Purpose, Slow Release fertiliser every 9-12 months.
You can grow Silver Torch Cacti in warm climates directly in the ground. For containers, ensure well-draining soil rich in nutrients. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes and use a well draining soil.
