When young, one or a few spines may grow but usually disppear as it matures. It is a spherical cacti which grows to approx. 55cm in diameter. It is blue in colour, produces stunning yellow flowers during the Summer months.

Spineless Blue Barrels crave full sunlight for 4 to 6 hours daily. Conversely, insufficient sunlight can lead to weak growth and minimal blooming.
As a desert cactus, Ferocactus glaucescens var. inermis can tolerate periods without water. Water the cactus thoroughly during its active growth season (spring and summer), saturating the soil. Allow the soil to dry out to prevent root rot caused by waterlogged conditions.
Ferocactus glaucescens var. imermis will benefit from an application of an All Purpose, Slow Release fertiliser every 9-12 months.
